The ending of Avengers: Endgame sees Steve Rogers sat on a bench, as an old man, who has spent his life with the love of his wife, Agent Carter, after finishing his mission to return the Infinity Stones and Thor’s hammer to their rightful place in the past.

Steve Rogers hands Sam Wilson, aka Falcon, his shield, passing the torch to a new Captain America.   His old friend, Bucky aka the Winter Soldier is also standing by after spotting Steve on the bench, which perfectly sets up the further adventures of the two characters in their upcoming Disney+ series.

This follows what happened in the comic books, when Sam Wilson becomes the new Captain America.  He held onto the title for a few years before eventually Steve Rogers was brought back as Captain America, when he is de-aged, following a run as the leader of Hydra.

The MCU might not recreate the stories from the comic books, while they often use them for inspiration, they rarely follow the story exactly.  We don’t yet know what the story of the series will be about, but the relationship between the two characters have had great on screen chemistry since Captain America: The Winter Solider.

Very little is known about the new series and now that Avengers: Endgame has been released, it wouldn’t be a shock to see the show renamed, since the title “Falcon and the Winter Solider” could have just been a red herring to throw us off the twist at the end of the movie.

This new series could be renamed similar to the comic book series, “Captain America & Winter Soldier” or “Sam Wilson: Captain America & Winter Soldier”.  Which would instantly be a more recognisable name for casual Marvel fans, especially if they redesign Falcon with a Captain America themed outfit.

Either way, Avengers: Endgame has set up this new Disney+ exclusive series perfectly.

What do you think of the new Falcon and Winter Soldier Series after Endgame?
