Kevin Feige Says “Blade” Is Still Coming To The Marvel Cinematic Universe
Way back at Marvel Studios panel at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, Marvel’s President Kevin Feige announced that they would be making a new “Blade” movie, with Mahershala Ali set to star as the vampire hunter.
Over the past few years, the project has gone through major creative issues, with multiple directors (Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange) and writers joining and leaving the project.
The movie was originally scheduled to hit cinemas in November 2023 but was delayed to November 2025. However, it was recently removed from the schedule, with “Predator: Badlands” taking its release slot. This has left many Marvel fans wondering if it will ever be made.
Mahershala Ali made an uncredited appearance as Blade in a post-credit scene in “Eternals”, and Marvel even made fun of the situation in “Deadpool & Wolverine”, which saw Wesley Snipes return as Blade, joking about how there will only ever be one Blade.
During an interview with the Brazilian entertainment website Omelette at the D23 Brazil event, Marvel’s President Kevin Feige gave an update on the film:
“We love the character, we love Mahershala’s version of him. And rest assured: whenever we change direction with a project, or are still trying to figure out how it fits into our schedule, we let the public know. You’re up to date on what’s going on. But I can tell you that the character will be coming to the MCU,”
Roger’s Take: While I think the problems with the “Blade” film have been ridiculous, and Marvel shouldn’t have announced this project as early as it did, I almost feel like “Blade” has to happen now. It’s almost a personal embarrassment for Marvel now, and they need to get it made.
