Kate McKinnon Joins “Percy Jackson And The Olympians” Cast
Just ahead of the release of the upcoming second season of the Disney+ Original series, “Percy Jackson and the Olympians”, Disney has announced that Kate McKinnon has joined the cast of the third season.
The series follows Percy Jackson, who is on a dangerous quest. Outrunning monsters and outwitting gods, he must journey across America to return Zeus’ master bolt and stop an all-out war. After losing his mother, Percy is sheltered at Camp Half-Blood, a sanctuary for demigod children. He must prove himself and confront his origins once he discovers he too is a demigod, and will take off into the perils of pursuing enemies in search of the Underworld. With the help of his quest mates Annabeth and Grover, Percy’s journey will lead him closer to the answers he seeks: how to fit into a world where he feels out of place, if he’ll ever see his mother again, and if he can ever find out who he’s destined to be.
The third season is based on the third book in the series, called “The Titan Curse” and follows Percy, Annabeth, Grover, and Thalia, who must rescue the goddess Artemis and Annabeth Chase after they are kidnapped by the Titan Atlas, who is holding the goddesses captive to force her to carry the sky. They go on a cross-country quest to save them, which also involves protecting a dangerous monster that could lead to a powerful prophecy. The mission forces them to confront the rising Titan army led by Kronos and make difficult sacrifices.
In the third season, Kate McKinnon will be playing the role of Aphrodite, who is the ancient Greek goddess of love, beauty, pleasure, and procreation; she is also known as Venus.
According to the official description of the character, Aphrodite can alter her appearance depending on the beholder and must be sure that Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) respects the power and importance of love before she agrees to offer aid on his quest.
Kate has previously starred in “Saturday Night Live”, “Yesterday”, “The Spy Who Dumped Me”, “Ghostbusters” and “Barbie”.
“Percy Jackson and the Olympians” stars Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, Aryan Simhadri, Charlie Bushnell, Dior Goodjohn and Daniel Diemer. Kate joins Levi Chrisopulos, Olive Abercrombie, Dafne Keen and Saara Chaudry, who have also joined the cast for the third season.
Created by Rick Riordan and Jonathan E. Steinberg, Season 2 of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” is executive produced by Steinberg and Dan Shotz alongside Rick Riordan, Rebecca Riordan, Craig Silverstein, The Gotham Group’s Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Bert Salke, The Gotham Group’s Jeremy Bell, D.J. Goldberg, James Bobin, Jim Rowe, Albert Kim, Jason Ensler and Sarah Watson.
