Last year, during the Disney Investor Day event, FX Chairman John Landgraf announced a new show called “The Dropout”, which is inspired by the ABC News podcast of the same name chronicling the rise and fall of Elizabeth Holmes and her company, Theranos.

The series will explore what caused the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire, once heralded as “the next Steve Jobs,” to lose everything in the blink of an eye.

It was revealed that actress Kate McKinnon was going to be playing the role of Elizabeth Holmes, but according to Deadline, the actress has dropped out of the show.

Disney will be moving on with the show without Kate McKinnon, with the search now underway on a replacement.  Production on the series is due to begin later this summer.

Produced by Disney’s Searchlight Television, The Dropout is executive produced by the podcast’s host/creator Rebecca Jarvis and producers Taylor Dunn and Victoria Thompson.

“The Dropout” will be released on Hulu in the United States and on Disney+ as a “Star Original” internationally.

What do you think of “Kate McKinnon” dropping out of the show?
