At the end of “The Marvels”, we saw Marvel set up a future project, where Ms Marvel tries to recruit Kate Bishop for her new superhero team of younger superheroes while also referencing Ant-Man’s daughter, Cassie Lang.

Over the past few years, Marvel Studios has been introducing younger superheroes, including Ironheart, who will be appearing in her own Disney+ series in June, America Chavez in “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness” and

Also, most recently, Wiccan, was introduced in the “Agatha All Along” show and in the season finale, Wiccan and Agatha head out on a quest to find Tommy, aka Speed, though we don’t know what project this storyline will be developed on, i.e. the upcoming “Vision” series or something completely different.

Industry insider DanielRPK has revealed that Marvel is making some changes to the upcoming project, shifting it from a “Young Avengers” film to a Disney+ series and will be called “Champions”, since many of the actors aren’t considered “young” anymore (probably due to how Marvel Studios hit the pause button and delayed its entire lineup).

Another reason this move from a movie to a Disney+ series is happening is apparently due to the poor box office results from “The Marvels” and the worry that another female-led movie wou

The “Young Avengers” debuted in the comic books in 2005 and have had many members over the years, including Vision, Hawkeye, Patriot and Hulking.  While “Champions” debuted in 2016, with members including Nova, Ms Marvel and Cyclops.

Also adding more speculation about this future project, most recently, while promoting Disney’s new cruise ship, the Disney Treasure, there was a scene showing America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), and Riri Williams  (Dominique Thorne) sitting in the new Worlds of Marvel Restaurant celebrating their latest victory.   The new cruise ship will only begin sailing later this year, and this restaurant will be around for many years, which could indicate the direction of future projects.

It’s important to note that Marvel hasn’t officially announced a “Young Avengers” or “Champions” film or Disney+ series.

Roger’s Take:  Ever since it became clear that Marvel was slowly building up a new superhero team of younger stars, I’ve been unsure if they would go by the name of “Young Avengers”, since there are multiple issues with this.  First off, the Avengers is such an iconic brand, I don’t think Disney will want to water it down with what many people will think of as a B-list lineup and also how the term “Young” could cause some mainstream audiences to think its a kids film.  I think moving to “Champions” would likely fix both of those issues.

I also think “Champions” could also work as a multi-season Disney+ series, with some storylines involving more traditional superhero-type stories dealing with lower-level crime (i.e. not always saving the world) and also could be much cheaper for them to produce since these actors haven’t moved into that next level of stardom, plus the team lineupcould change over the time.

Do you think “Young Avengers” will be a film or a Disney+ series?  Let me know on social media!
