Inside Pixar Review
Disney’s latest behind the scenes documentary series is “Inside Pixar”, which takes a look at the personal and cinematic stories that provide an inside look into the people, artistry, and culture of Pixar Animation Studios.
There are five episodes released on Friday 13th November, as part of a “Inspired” collection, so it looks like Disney is releasing these documentaries in smaller chunks.
Each episode is around 10 minutes long and I got to watch two episodes ahead of their release:
Inspired: Kemp Powers, Writing Something Real
This episode gives us a really good preview of the upcoming movie, “Soul” (which is coming to Disney+ on Christmas Day). The movies co-director Kemp gives us a honest insight into a simple, yet pivotal scene in Soul. We get to see a little more of the film and the idea behind it, but also what Disney have done to make it more authentic.
Inspired: Deanna Marsigliese, The Art of the Pivot
This episode gives us an insight into Pixar character designer Deanna Marsigliese, who has a love of vintage clothing and has a unique creative flare, which has been used in many movies including “The Incredibles 2” and the upcoming film “Luca”. It’s also great to get a very small sneak peek at next years new Pixar movie.
For fans of Pixar and for those who want a little sneak peek behind the curtain, this looks to be a nice fluffy but enjoyable series. With just 10 minutes to fill, it never really gets too deep and keeps on track. Both the episodes I watched showcased people who regularly wouldn’t be highlighted.
I found both episodes to be much more interesting that some of the other recent behind the scenes documentaries like “One Day At Disney”, which felt more like a Human Resources training video. But don’t go expecting the same amount of detail as we’ve seen in “Into The Unknown: Making Frozen”.
