“Grey’s Anatomy” Renewed For A 23rd Season
One of the most successful drama shows on both linear and streaming is “Grey’s Anatomy”, which follows a team of doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial who are faced with life-or-death decisions on a daily basis. They seek comfort from one another and, at times, more than just friendship. Together, they discover that neither medicine nor relationships can be defined in black and white.
Over the years, the medical show has picked up multiple Emmys and Golden Globes across its 22 seasons.
That success looks to continue, as Disney has announced that “Grey’s Anatomy” will return for a 23rd season later this year. Though it has not yet been confirmed how many episodes the new season will have, as Disney has been looking to cut costs, it could possibly once again reduce the number of episodes ordered.
A video confirmed the renewal was released, featuring some of the cast, including Chandra Wilson (Bailey), James Pickens Jr. (Richard), Jason Winston George (Ben), Harry Shum Jr. (Kwan) and Adelaide Kane (Jules), likely confirming they will be returning for the new season.
However, not everyone will be returning for the new season, as it’s been revealed that long-time cast members, Kevin McKidd (Owen) and Kim Raver (Teddy), will both be leaving at the end of the current season.
The 21st season of “Grey’s Anatomy” is currently rolling out with new episodes each week on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and on Disney+ internationally. The previous seasons are also available to stream on these platforms.
Roger’s Take: This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise to see “Grey’s Anatomy” renewed for a new season. It’s the most-watched live-action series on Hulu and Disney+, it’s a streaming juggernaut, and after so many years, it has a formula that works but also allows for new characters to be introduced, while letting go of older cast members, whose characters might have run out of steam or actors that just want to do something else.
