FX’s “Alien” Series Delayed Until 2025
One of the many new shows announced back at the Disney Investor Day in 2020 was a new instalment in the “Alien” franchise, which is being made by FX and the “Fargo” creator, Noah Hawley.
The new series is set not too far into our future, and it’s the first Alien story set on Earth. It blends both the timeless horror of the first “Alien” film with the non-stop action of the second and will take place before Ripley. It will be coming to Hulu in the United States and on Disney+ around the world.
Recently, during an interview with The Wrap to promote the upcoming fifth season of “Fargo”, Noah Hawley revealed that due to the delays in filming the new series because of the actor’s strike, the show’s release date will be pushed back to 2025.
“We’re all just waiting for the strike, and it will end. The plan right now is to go back in January and be shooting in February, and looks like shoot until July or so, which puts the air date somewhere in the in the first half of ’25,”
Due to the pandemic, filming on the show was pushed back from early 2022 until this summer, when it started filming in Thailand and while they were able to continue filming some of the show with the many British actors who were on the cast, that are part of the Equity union, who aren’t on strike, the show’s main star, Sydney Chandler, who is an American, filming eventually stopped in August due to the SAG-AFTRA actors strike. Noah explained:
“I was able to complete filming most of the first hour. That said, I wasn’t able to film anything with my star. So I still have the bulk of the show to film, and we have seven more hours to shoot,” Hawley said. “I certainly would have loved to get the show in front of people as quickly as possible.”
The cast of “Alien” also includes Alex Lawther (Star Wars: Andor), Samuel Blenkin (Black Mirror), Kit Young (Shadow And Bone), Essie Davis (Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries) and Adarsh Gourav (The White Tiger). Noah is still looking forward to audiences see the new series and taking on the Alien franchise, by adding:
“It’s very exciting that I get this opportunity, with films like ‘Fargo’ or ‘Alien,’ to live within the world that was created by these directors and storytellers. It raises the hair on the back of your neck in a good way to walk onto a set where you feel like you’re on the ‘Nostromo,’”
The good news for “Alien” fans is that while this series won’t arrive until 2025, 20th Century Studios has already filmed a new film, called “Alien: Romulus”, which is due to be released in cinemas in August 2024.
Previous “Alien” films are available to stream now on Disney+ in many countries, including the UK, Canada and Australia.
