Disney’s remake of the classic “Freaky Friday” with Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan was released twenty years ago, and it told the story of Tess and her daughter, Anna, who do not get along. Things take a turn when, in a freak incident, their bodies are switched, and they are forced to live each other’s lives.

Lately, the stars of the film have been very vocal online about doing a follow-up to that film, such as at the premiere of Netflix’s “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” in November, Jamie Lee Curtis told said to Variety, that:

“There is no scheduled date, but we’re talking. People are talking. The right people are talking.”

Since then, things look to have moved on a little, as earlier this month, Jamie Lee Curtis posted an image on social media with Lindsay Lohan, saying:

“It’s Friday. I’m just sayin! Freaky fingers crossed!””

Lindsay Lohan also commented on that post with the fingers crossed emoji, along with a smiley face with heart eyes and two hands up.

And this past weekend, at the Producers Guild Awards, Jamie Lee Curtis gave another update on the potential new film, saying:

“It’s going to happen.  Without saying there’s anything officially happening, I’m looking at you in this moment and saying, ‘Of course it’s going to happen.’ It’s going to happen.”

This might just be a case of the actors wanting to get enough social media buzz over the potential follow-up, but hopefully, we do see an official update on this.  Shifting the film away from a teenager and her mother, to deal with the issues of growing old, could be an interesting take for adults to enjoy.

Disney has already gone back to the “Freaky Friday” franchise since the one starring Curtis and Lohan, as the Disney Channel released a film back in 2018, which didn’t have the same impact .

Both “Freaky Friday” films, along with the original version from 1976, starring Jodie Foster, are all available to stream now on Disney+.
