FOX Cancels “Alert: Missing Persons Unit”
Following the release of the season three finale of the police drama series, “Alert: Missing Persons Unit”, FOX Entertainment has revealed that it has been cancelled and won’t be returning for a fourth season.
“Alert: Missing Persons Unit” is a procedural drama set in the Philadelphia Police Department’s Missing Persons Unit. Each episode features a heart-pounding, life-or-death search for a missing person headed by detectives Jason Grant and Nikki Batista. Together with the MPU team, their job is to find the missing or abducted and reunite them with their loved ones. Jason and Nikki, once married, have a very personal connection to these cases as their own young son went missing and was never found. The emotional toll of their son’s disappearance blew up their marriage, but even though they’ve moved on, their bond remains.
The cancellation doesn’t come as a huge surprise, as it was one of a handful of shows that weren’t announced to be returning for a new season later this year during the Upfront season. Apparently, FOX tried exploring a way of retooling the show, as the network liked how it had become a buddy-cop show. However, the ratings weren’t high enough to warrant its return.
“Alert: Missing Persons Unit” stars Scott Caan (Hawaii 5-0), Dania Ramirez (Devious Maids), Adeola Role (The Blacklist), Ryan Broussard (Only Murders in the Building) and Graham Verchere (Stargirl).
The show is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and FOX Entertainment. Carla Kettner serves as showrunner and executive producer. Jon Cowan, Brandon Sonnier, Brandon Margolis, Sean Hennen, John Eisendrath, Jamie Foxx, Datari Turner, and Brad Turner are also executive producers.
All three seasons of “Alert: Missing Persons Unit” are available to stream now on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+. Though with any cancelled shows, these may only be available for a limited time.
Roger’s Take: It’s unfortunate that “Alert: Missing Persons Unit” got cancelled, but the networks are much more ruthless when it comes to cancelling shows that aren’t performing well enough.
