This week, Disney’s ESPN has announced a brand new documentary called “American Son”, which will be the latest instalment in the popular “30 For 30” franchise.

“American Son” captures a pivotal moment in sports and history, as it chronicles the remarkable journey of Michael Chang, a young tennis prodigy whose ascent to fame coincided with an unfathomable and unforgettable upset of Ivan Lendl at the 1989 French Open. The documentary delves into Chang’s upbringing shaped by his family’s immigrant experience, his rapid rise in the tennis world, and the challenges he overcame to achieve success.

This new documentary has been directed by Jay Caspian Kang. It has been executive produced by ESPN Films and Words + Pictures.

“American Son” will premiere on ESPN at 7pm on July 29th and it will also be available to stream on ESPN+, which is included in the Disney Streaming Bundle. You can also watch ESPN content via ESPN+ On Hulu and later this year through the new ESPN hub on Disney+.
