Don Cheadle To Narrate “The Wonder Years” Reboot
There has been lots of casting news on Disney’s ABC’s upcoming reboot of “The Wonder Years” in the past week, and THR is now reporting that Don Cheadle will be the narrator of the series that will focus on a Black family in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1968.
Don Cheadle will be playing the adult version of the main character, Dean, where he will be looking back on his childhood. In the pilot, the 12-year-old version of Dean will be played by Elisha “EJ” Williams.
The new reboot is being written by Saladin Patterson, who is also an executive producer on the reboot. The pilot will be directed by Fred Savage, who played Kevin Arnold in the original series. He will also be an executive producer, along with “Empire” co-creator Lee Daniels. Laura Kariuki (Black Lightning) is Kim Williams, Dean’s teenage sister.
Daniel Stern narrated the original 1980s series.
Should the pilot get the go-ahead, it’s still not been revealed exactly where the ABC series would debut, either on Disney+ or on ABC & Hulu in the US and as a “Star Original” on Disney+ internationally.
Don Cheadle will also be starring in the upcoming Marvel Studios Disney+ series “Armor Wars” and recently made a cameo in the Disney+ hit series “The Falcon And The Winter Soldier”.
