This Fall, Disney has released a brand new drama series from Ryan Murphy called “Doctor Odyssey”, which tells the story of a new on-board doctor, who joins a luxury cruise ship where the staff works hard and plays harder. It’s all-hands-on-deck as Max and his small but mighty medical team navigate unique medical crises and each other, miles from shore.

“Doctor Odyssey” stars Joshua Jackson, Phillipa Soo, Sean Teale and Don Johnson. The series, produced by 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television, is written and executive produced by Ryan Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken. Joshua Jackson and Don Johnson serve as executive producers. Paris Barclay directs and executive produces. Eric Paquette, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson and Nissa Diederich also serve as executive producers.

The show has been a huge success for Disney, as they’ve announced that after 35 days of viewing on ABC, Hulu, Hulu on Disney+ and digital platforms, excluding linear encores, “Doctor Odyssey” has racked up an impressive total cross-platform audience to date of 16.5 million Total Viewers for its highly anticipated series premiere, representing a 299% lift over the show’s initial Live+Same Day audience (16.5 million vs. 4.13 million).

“Doctor Odyssey” has also hit the Hulu Top 15 Today 32 times in its first 35 days on Hulu.   It’s also hit the Disney+ Top 10 Today list in many countries around the world.

Earlier this week, Disney also revealed that the first episode of its other new series, “High Potential” was watched by 20 million people across all the different platforms in the US. This show was the highest-rated ABC series premiere in nearly four years. So “Doctor Odyssey” is just behind one of its most successful shows in recent years.

Roger’s Take: I’ve been enjoying “Doctor Odyssey”, it’s a little cheesy but the return to more procedural types of shows seems to be working well for Disney. Many of the most successful and most watched shows tend to have a single story per episode, making it easier to just drop in and watch a single episode. Based on these early numbers, hopefully we will see more “Doctor Odyssey” in the future.
