This week, Disney is going through its second wave of job cuts as the company goes through a cost-cutting plan to get Disney’s finances back on track to focus on profitability.    The first wave of cuts happened last month , which is expected to take the total to around 4000 jobs cut, with a final wave of job cuts expected later this summer, which will result in a total of 7000 of jobs being cut, which is about 3.2% of Disney’s total employees.

On Wednesday, the third day of job cuts continued with people affected from many divisions within Disney, including D23, Disney Branded Television, FX, Marvel and streaming.  20th Digital Studios has been dissolved.

Variety has revealed that Jerrell Jimerson, who is the Chief Product Officer, Disney Streaming, Disney+, Star+, and Hulu, will be leaving the company.  He has been at Disney since 2018, where he was the Chief Product Officer for BAMTech, which Disney acquired.  He was involved in the Disney+ launch and helped create the feel of Disney+, Star+ and Hulu.

In a farewell note by Jimerson, he said:

“When I joined the team in 2018, we were just starting to build what was then referred to as Dominguez, our codename for Disney+ — an ode to the Dominguez Palm Tree, which provided the roots (literally) for Disneyland.  I am so amazingly proud to have been a part of what we’ve created — sincerely one of the highlights of my career.  As I move on to my next adventure, I want you to know that I am leaving on a high. The product is stronger than ever, and I have no doubt that you will continue to make it even better in the years to come. I will always look back on my time at Disney with fondness and pride, and I will always be grateful for the experience and friendships.”

Disney’s official fan club, D23, is going to be losing about a quarter of its staff, with lots of speculation that the division is going to be restructured.  It’s unknown what impact this will have on the future of D23 and the D23 Expo.

As Disney is planning on reducing the amount of content it is making under its general entertainment side, more of the development staff is going to be departing including Freeform’s SVP Julie Jarmon and ABC drama development and current, SVP Stacey Adams.

It was also revealed that FX’s manager of development, Kelsey DiLaura will be leaving, along with multiple managers at Marvel.

Disney Branded Televisions’ SVP of Development and Current Series, Reena Singh, will be leaving the company, along with Amanda DiPiazza, Executive Director, Current Series, Disney Branded Television.
