Disney has had lots of success with making live action versions of their animated classics, with “The Lion King”, “Beauty and the Beast”, “Aladdin”, “The Jungle Book” and many more.

The latest report from “The DisInsider”, is that Disney is looking to remake the 1997 animated movie, Hercules, into a live action version.  It’s expected to be a full theatrical release, rather than a Disney+ Original.

This new movie will be produced by Jeffery Silver, who has previously worked on the Disney movies, “The Lion King” and “Tron: Legacy”, and Karen Gilchrist, who has also worked on “The Lion King” and the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian”.

No director is currently attached to the project, but apparently Disney would like either Gore Verbinski, Jon Favreau or the Russo Brothers on board. Jon Favreau has worked with Disney on multiple projects including “The Jungle Book”, “Iron Man” and “The Mandalorian”.  The Russo Brothers have worked on multiple Marvel projects including “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Endgame”.  Gore Verbinski has worked with Disney before on “The Lone Ranger” and the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies.

Once a director has been attached to the film, then more pre-production will take place, such as finding the cast and crew.   With the current Coronavirus situation causing production on films to be put on hold, Disney is conducting meetings and developing new projects via video conferencing software such as Zoom.

Disney hasn’t officially announced a live action version of “Hercules”.

UPDATE – The Hollywood Reporter has also confirmed that a live action remake is in the works at Disney, with Anthony and Joe Russo producing the flim.  It will be written by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings screenwriter David Callaham.
