With 2023 coming to a close, Disney has confirmed some of the new original content heading to Disney+ in the United Kingdom and Ireland in 2024, which includes FX’s original adaptation of James Clavell’s bestselling novel “Shōgun,” the star-studded drama series “Rivals,” based on the iconic novel from Jilly Cooper, UK original action and adventure series “Renegade Nell,” from the mind of award-winning writer and executive producer, Sally Wainwright, Marvel Studios’ highly-anticipated “Echo” series, Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars: The Acolyte” visiting the shadowy secrets in the final days of the High Republic era, and all-new seasons of “Futurama,” FX’s “The Bear” and “Welcome to Wrexham,” plus so much more.

As with all previews, things could change, and shows could get pushed back, but these titles revealed today have already been filmed, so they are less likely to get delayed since there have been many delays due to the writer’s and actor’s strikes.  And it’s also important to note that this isn’t the complete list of everything coming in 2024, just the ones confirmed so far.

Here are some of the upcoming exclusives coming to Disney+ in 2024:

LOCAL ORIGINAL PRODUCTIONS

From BAFTA-nominated director Ben Taylor (“Sex Education”) and the mind of award-winning writer and executive producer Sally Wainwright (“Gentleman Jack,” “Happy Valley”), the highly anticipated UK Original series “Renegade Nell” starring Louisa Harland (“Derry Girls”) premieres in Spring 2024. Framed for murder and on the run with her sisters, Nell Jackson turns her hand to highway robbery to survive.

Additional UK Originals confirmed to join the slate for 2024 include the second season of the award-winning Certified Fresh comedy series, “Extraordinary” (early 2024); “Camden” (2024), a documentary series featuring some of the world’s biggest music acts, including series executive producer Dua Lipa.

There will also be a new four-part drama series called “Shardlake” (2024), based on the internationally popular Tudor murder mystery novels by C.J. Sansom, starring Arthur Hughes, Anthony Boyle and Sean Bean; “In Vogue” (2024), a landmark unscripted fashion series giving unparalleled access to the insights of Vogue’s top editors, along with some of the most influential names in fashion, film and politics.

Also coming in 2024 is the highly-anticipated, star-studded drama series “Rivals” (2024), based on the iconic novel from Jilly Cooper, packed full of romantic entanglement, sex, and unforgettable characters.

EMEA Originals include the Spanish limited drama series “Cristóbal Balenciaga” (Jan 19th), following the story of a man who dares to defy his social status as the son of a seamstress and a fisherman. Using his natural talent, strong work ethic and sharp nose for business, Cristóbal Balenciaga went on to become one of the most prominent fashion designers of all time.

And the new Australian series, “The Artful Dodger” (Jan 17th), is set in 1850s Australia where Jack Dawkins, The Artful Dodger, is now a surgeon who still has a penchant for crime in this Australian original series, starring Thomas Brodie-Sangster, David Thewlis and Maia Mitchell.

GENERAL ENTERTAINMENT

Disney+’s general entertainment offering continues to grow in 2024, with the addition of epic drama, FX’s “Shōgun” (27th Feb), set in Japan in the year 1600 at the dawn of a century-defining civil war, and an exciting new limited series from Ryan Murphy, “FEUD: Capote Vs. The Swans” (2024), set in high society New York.

“Vanderpump Villa” (2024) also arrives on the platform in early 2024, executive produced by Lisa Vanderpump and follows staff — hand-picked by the reality star and restaurateur — at her luxury French villa as they live and work together to navigate every extravagant desire of their well-to-do guests.

But that’s not all – customers can look forward to brand-new mystery series including “Black Cake,” (coming soon) a family drama wrapped in a murder mystery with a diverse cast of characters and a global setting, inspired by Charmaine Wilkerson’s bestselling novel; and “Death And Other Details,” (2024), centring on Imogene Scott (Violett Beane), who becomes the prime suspect in a locked room murder mystery, and to prove her innocence she must partner with a man she despises—Rufus Cotesworth (Mandy Patinkin), the world’s greatest detective.

Booklovers can also anticipate two exciting adaptations; based on Georgia Hunter’s New York Times bestselling novel, the television adaptation of “We Were the Lucky Ones” (2024) is a limited series inspired by the incredible true story of one Jewish family separated at the start of World War II, determined to survive and reunite.

Meanwhile, “Interior Chinatown,” (2024) based on the National Book Award-winning book of the same name, follows the story of Willis Wu, a background character trapped in a police procedural trying to find his way into the larger story – and along the way he discovers secrets about the strange world he inhabits and his family’s buried history.

Critically acclaimed, award-winning hit series FX’s “The Bear,” (2024) in addition to the Emmy-nominated docuseries FX’s “Welcome to Wrexham,” (Spring 2024) have both been renewed for third seasons and will return to Disney+ in 2024.

MARVEL STUDIOS

Marvel Studios’ “Echo” will arrive on 10 January 2024, with all episodes available. The series tells the origin story of Maya Lopez, whose ruthless behaviour in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots, and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.

Marvel fans can also look forward to the highly anticipated “Agatha: Darkhold Diaries” series arriving in 2024, with Kathryn Hahn reprising her fan-favourite role of Westview’s resident Darkhold reader, Agatha.

The upcoming animated Disney+ original series from Marvel Studios, “X-Men ’97,” will also arrive on the platform in 2024.

STAR WARS

“Star Wars: The Acolyte” will premiere on Disney+ in 2024. The series is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.

“Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” tells the story of four kids who find themselves lost in the vastness of the galaxy trying to find their way home. This series will arrive on the platform in 2024.

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC

In the world of the wild, “A Real Bug’s Life” and “Queens” are both set to launch on Disney+ and National Geographic this year.

Inspired by the world of Disney and Pixar’s “A Bug’s Life,” the new Disney+ original series from National Geographic, “A Real Bug’s Life” (Jan 24th), is an incredible adventure into nine different micro bug worlds around the globe, where the forces of nature play out on a miniature scale, and where tiny creatures rely on amazing powers and extraordinary alliances to make it through each day.

The wildest places on the planet have always been home to powerful leaders, but this is a story of a new hero – fierce, smart, resilient and … female. “Queens” (Early 2024), narrated by Angela Bassett (“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” “The Flood,” “Good Night Oppy”), follows matriarchies and female leaders around the world to tell a story of sacrifice and resilience, but also of friendship and love.

DISNEY BRANDED TELEVISION

There will be plenty of new original content coming from Disney Branded Television, including your favourite monsters, which will also return to Disney+ with a second season of “Monsters at Work” (2024), and the iconic duo of super-genius Lunella Lafayette and Devil Dinosaur return with a second season of “Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur” (2024).

Younger audiences can also look forward to “Disney Junior’s Ariel” (2024), alongside brand-new seasons of “Marvel’s Spidey and his Amazing Friends” Season 3 (2024), “SuperKitties” Season 2 (2024) and “Mickey Mouse Funhouse” Season 3 (2024) coming to the platform in 2024.

Disney+ customers can look forward to the latest seasons of their favourite long-running series throughout 2024, including “Futurama” will return with Season 12 later in 2024 with all-new adventures from Fry, Bender, and Leila.
