“Once A Princess, Always A Princess” Arrives On Disney+ For World Princess Week

To kick off World Princess Week, Disney has released a brand-new short film called “Once A Princess, Always A Princess” on Disney+ and YouTube.

This new short tells the story of two girls who unlock a magical shared world of princesses that they create through imagination and lifelong friendship. The short explores the enchanting worlds they build during play—and their timeless connection to all things Disney Princess.

Visual artist, director, and screenwriter Alex Prager, who is known for using her art to construct highly emotional moments and contemplate the human experience, Alex’s short follows two young girls who become friends through their shared love of Disney princesses. They carry traits that these beloved stories and characters have taught them into adulthood, eventually passing this shared joy down to their own young daughters.

Check out the new short below:

World Princess Week is an extraordinary global celebration honouring one of the world’s most beloved and enduring storytelling franchises. World Princess Week invites fans of all ages to experience new stories, incredible entertainment, special events, consumer products, and more inspired by Disney Princess characters whose stories have inspired generations through confidence, compassion, courage, and creativity.

Throughout the week, fans around the world can stream “Disney Princess: The Ultimate Concert Celebration”, which features the largest gathering of Disney Princess talent ever assembled — on Disney+, discover new episodes and specials featuring beloved Disney Princess characters, celebrate inspiring Disney Princess wishes with Make-A-Wish, and participate in retail, digital, and live experiences across Disney’s global ecosystem.

To go along with the release of this new short, Disney also commissioned new research finding that princess stories continue to be relevant as young girls grow up – all women polled agreed that the media plays a significant role in teaching values, and 93% said it’s important for young girls to have strong female role models in the media, with Lee Jury, SVP, Marketing for the The Walt Disney Company EMEA which commissioned the research, saying in a statement regarding Disney Princess Week:

“Stories have always been a powerful way for children to learn about the world and this research confirms those lessons endure well into adulthood. That’s the heart of this year’s World Princess Week theme: Once A Princess, Always A Princess. Women of all ages draw on the values they learnt from their favourite princesses growing up to navigate the world today – and in time pass those values onto the next generation. It is inspiring to see Disney Princesses play such a meaningful role across a lifetime.”

Motsi Mabuse, who is ambassador for Disney’s World Princess Week, also commented:

“Music and dance have shaped my whole life, so Tiana— a princess who follows her dream with warmth and determination – will always have a special place in my heart. I adored Disney Princesses as a child, and now it is a true joy to share that with my own daughter. Whether we’re dancing around the living room or lost in a story together, I love knowing that the qualities I hope she carries through life are the very ones she finds in the characters we love so much.”

Roger’s Take: Every year Disney uses the Princess Week to help promote its iconic characters like Belle, Snow White, Ariel and others.  It makes total sense to lean into this, so making this cute short film that highlights the power of play, but also how that can lead to friendship for years.  I still remember the kids I used to play Superheroes, Transformers and He-Man with when I was a child, so this short did a great job of reaching that nostalgia while also promoting the classic Disney films on Disney+.
