2021 is going to be a bumper year for new original content on Disney+ as lots of new shows have been announced by Disney already.  With over 6 Marvel series, 2 Star Wars shows and lots more Disney shows.  Many of these shows were recently announced during the 2020 Investor Day event and some of the shows have previously been announced at last years event and at the D23 Expo.

Here is the rundown of every Disney+ Original series we know that is coming to Disney+ in 2021:


Monsters At Work

Inspired by Disney and Pixar’s Academy Award®- winning feature film “Monsters, Inc.,” the animated series follows Tylor Tuskmon (voiced by Ben Feldman), an ambitious, yet clumsy monster who is set to begin his dream job as a Scarer when the news hits that Monsters, Inc. is now harvesting children’s laughter instead of screams the laughter of children to fuel the city of Monstropolis. Tylor accepts an entry-level job with the facilities team in hopes of someday making his way up to the factory Laugh Floor to become a Jokester alongside his idols Mike and Sulley (voiced by Billy Crystal and John Goodman).


Chip ‘n’ Dale

The beloved chipmunks return in a 21st century take on a cartoon classic produced by multi-award-winning French studio Xilam Animation. Now living in a small park in a bustling metropolis, these two tiny underdogs are taking on a world where everyone is bigger than them. Chip, the nervous worrier, and Dale, the laid-back dreamer, drive each other nuts but couldn’t live without each other.


(Re)Connect

In each episode of (Re)Connect, a family will disconnect from their busy lives, devices and outside influences in order to address a relatable issue that’s driving a wedge between them. With the help of a specialized expert, each family will go on a unique journey to confront the family’s dilemma head on. Can they finally come together as a family to overcome their obstacles and reconnect?


Untitled Mickey Mouse Documentary

Academy Award-, Grammy Award- and Emmy Award-winning documentarian Morgan Neville (Won’t You Be My Neighbor?, 20 Feet From Stardom) is producing an untitled documentary that will strive to be the definitive analysis of Mickey Mouse as a cultural icon. Jeff Malmberg (Marwencol, Shangri-La) directs the film, from Tremolo Productions and Lincoln Square Productions.


Wolfgang

Directed by Supper Club co-founder David Gelb (Jiro Dreams of Sushi), Wolfgang takes a close look at the life and work of the original “celebrity chef,” Wolfgang Puck.


People & Places

In this relaunch of Walt Disney’s Academy Award-winning documentary short film series from the 1950s and 1960s, a mix of up-and-coming and established filmmakers will tell the real-life stories of extraordinary people and places from around the globe that embody the Disney ethos.


High School Musical: The Musical – The Series – Season 2

The series is set at East High School, the setting and filming location of the original movies. It introduces members of the drama club and their faculty advisors as they work their way to opening night of their school’s first-ever production of “High School Musical: The Musical.” Show-mances blossom, old friendships are tested while new ones are made, rivalries flare, and lives are changed forever as these students discover the transformative power that only high school theater can provide.   We got to see a preview of the new season during the “High School Musical: The Musical: The Holiday Special”, which you can see below:


Diary Of A Future President – Season 2

In “Diary of a Future President,” we see the origin story of a future leader. Told using the narration of 12-year-old Cuban American girl Elena’s diary, this new family comedy follows her journey through the ups and downs of middle school, which set her on the path to becoming the president of the United States.   Filming is currently underway on the second season.


The World According To Jeff Goldblum – Season 2

Early last year, Disney announced that the Disney+ Original series featuring Jeff Goldblum would be returning for a second season.  Through the prism of Jeff Goldblum’s always inquisitive and highly entertaining mind, nothing is as it seems in this new series. Each episode is centered around something we all love – like sneakers or ice cream – as Jeff pulls the thread on these deceptively familiar objects and unravels a wonderful world of astonishing connections, fascinating science and history, amazing people, and a whole lot of surprising big ideas and insights.


The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers

Lauren Graham (“Gilmore Girls,” “Parenthood”) and Emilio Estevez (reprising his role from the original feature films) star in the next chapter of the hit Mighty Ducks franchise, premiering in early 2021. In present day Minnesota, the Mighty Ducks have evolved from scrappy underdogs to an ultra-competitive, powerhouse youth hockey team. After 12-year-old Evan is unceremoniously cut from the Ducks, he and his mom Alex set out to build their own ragtag team of misfits to challenge the cutthroat, win-at-all-costs culture of competitive youth sports.


Big Shot

The series follows a temperamental college basketball coach who gets fired from his job and must take a teaching and coaching job at an elite all-girls private high school. Big Shot stars John Stamos and an ensemble cast of up-and-coming actors alongside Yvette Nicole Brown.


The Mysterious Benedict Society

Placed undercover at a boarding school known as The Institute, a group of orphans must foil a nefarious plot with global ramifications while creating a new sort of family along the way. Based on the bestseller by Trenton Lee Stewart which Time Magazine called “one of the best young adult books of all time,” the series stars Emmy® Award winner Tony Hale (“Veep,” “Arrested Development”) in the titular role and features a standout ensemble of young actors.


Turner & Hooch

When an ambitious, buttoned-up US Marshall inherits a big unruly dog, he soon realizes the dog he didn’t want may be the partner he needs. Josh Peck stars as Scott Turner, son of Detective Scott Turner portrayed in the original 1989 film by Tom Hanks.


Earth To Ned – Season 2

From the Jim Henson Company comes a late-night talk show hosted by alien commander Ned and his lieutenant Cornelius, who call off the invasion of Earth after they fall in love with human culture. Broadcasting from the bridge of their spaceship, hidden deep underground, Ned and Cornelius interview Earth’s greatest resource, celebrities. With the help of the ship’s artificial intelligence, BETI, and the destructive CLODs, Ned must keep his show a secret from his home planet or suffer the wrath of his father, the Admiral of the Galactic Fleet.

New episodes of Earth To Ned will be arriving on Disney+ on January 1st 2021.


Dug Days

Dug Days, which premieres exclusively on Disney+ in Fall 2021, is a new collection of shorts that follows the humorous misadventures of Dug, the lovable dog from Disney and Pixar’s “Up.” Each short features everyday events that occur in and around Dug’s backyard, all through the exciting (and delightfully distorted) eyes of our favorite talking dog. The shorts are written and directed by Academy Award® nominee and Emmy® Award winner Bob Peterson and produced by Kim Collins.


WandaVision

WandaVision, launching on Disney+ on January 15, 2021, is Marvel Studios’ first series that continues to expand the MCU. Wanda Maximoff and Vision are two super-powered beings are living idealized suburban lives, but begin to suspect everything is not as it seems. Starring Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Kathryn Hahn, Teyonah Parris, Kat Dennings and Randall Park, WandaVision is directed by Matt Shakman; Jac Shaeffer is head writer.

Coming to Disney+ from January 15th


The Falcon and The Winter Soldier

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, kicking off on Disney+ March 19th, 2021, is a new series starring Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson aka The Falcon, and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier. The pair, who came together in the final moments of “Avengers: Endgame,” team up on a global adventure that tests their abilities—and their patience. Directed by Kari Skogland with Malcolm Spellman serving as head writer, the six-episode series also stars Daniel Brühl as Baron Zemo, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter, and Wyatt Russell as John Walker.


Loki

Loki is set to debut on Disney+ in May 2021 featuring the God of Mischief as he steps out of his brother’s shadow in a new series that takes place after the events of “Avengers: Endgame.” Tom Hiddleston returns as the title character, joined by Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku and Richard E. Grant. Kate Herron directs Loki, and Michael Waldron is head writer.


What If…?

What If…? flips the script on the MCU, reimagining famous events from the films in unexpected ways. Coming to Disney+ in Summer 2021, Marvel Studios’ first animated series focuses on different heroes from the MCU, featuring a voice cast that includes a host of stars who reprise their roles. The series is directed by Bryan Andrews; Ashley Bradley is head writer.


Ms. Marvel

Ms. Marvel, launching on Disney+ in late 2021, is a new series that introduces Kamala Khan—a 16-year-old Pakistani-American growing up in Jersey City. A great student, an avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, she has a special affinity for superheroes, particularly Captain Marvel. But Kamala struggles to fit in at home and at school—that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life is easier with super powers, right? Iman Vellani stars as Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel; the cast also includes Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Naki, Azher Usman, Travina Springer and Nimra Bucha. Episodes are directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

Coming to Disney+ in late 2021.


Hawkeye

Hawkeye, which debuts on Disney+ in late 2021, stars Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, who teams up with another well-known archer from the Marvel comics, Kate Bishop, played by Hailee Steinfeld. The cast also includes Vera Farmiga, Fra Fee, Tony Dalton, Zahn McClarnon, Brian d’Arcy James and newcomer Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez. Hawkeye is helmed by Rhys Thomas and directing duo Bert and Bertie.

Coming to Disney+ in Fall 2021.


Marvel Studios: Legends

Marvel Studios: Legends is a new series that will showcase individual characters viewers have come to know and love over the years and revisit some of their most iconic moments. Marvel Studios: Legends kicks off by highlighting Wanda Maximoff and Vision, the two stars of WandaVision, and their interconnected path across the MCU that led them both here.

Grab a quick snack of Pixar! This collection of mini shorts stars your favorite characters in all-new, bite size stories. Created directly by Pixar animators as a quick pop of Pixar fun.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch

The Bad Batch follows the elite and experimental clones of the Bad Batch (first introduced in “The Clone Wars”) as they find their way in a rapidly changing galaxy in the immediate aftermath of the Clone War. Members of Bad Batch—a unique squad of clones who vary genetically from their brothers in the Clone Army—each possess a singular exceptional skill that makes them extraordinarily effective soldiers and a formidable crew. In the post-Clone War era, they will take on daring mercenary missions as they struggle to stay afloat and find new purpose.


Star Wars: The Book Of Boba Fett

The Book of Boba Fett will be set within the timeline of The Mandalorian and star Temuera Morrison as the titular bounty hunter, along with Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand. Robert Rodriguez, Favreau and Dave Filoni are executive producers for the series.

Star Wars: Visions

Presenting all-new, creative takes on the galaxy far, far away, Star Wars: Visions will be a series of animated short films celebrating Star Wars through the lens of the world’s best anime creators. The anthology collection will bring 10 fantastic visions from several of the leading Japanese anime studios, offering a fresh and diverse cultural perspective to Star Wars.


Limitless With Chris Hemsworth

What if you could combat aging and discover the full potential of the human body? Global movie star Chris Hemsworth (“Extraction,” “Thor,” “The Avengers”) explores this revolutionary idea in the new National Geographic original series, Limitless With Chris Hemsworth, created by Darren Aronofsky and hailing from his production company Protozoa Pictures and Jane Root’s Nutopia. New scientific research is shattering conventional wisdom about the human body and offering fascinating insights into how we can all unlock our body’s superpowers to fight illness, perform better and even reverse the aging process! The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder

The new animated family sitcom “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder” is currently in production at Disney Television Animation with Academy Award-winning creator/executive producer Bruce W. Smith and executive producer Ralph Farquhar, who led the original series, at the helm, reuniting them with Calvin Brown, Jr. who is co-executive producer and story editor.


Doogie Kameāloha, M.D.

Set in modern-day Hawaii, the 10-episode comedy follows Lahela “Doogie” Kameāloha, a mixed race 16-year-old girl, juggling a budding medical career and life as a teenager. Guiding Lahela (and also complicating things) is her family, including her spit-fire Irish mother who’s also her supervisor at the hospital, and her Hawaiian “Local Boy” father struggling to accept that his daughter is no longer his little girl.


Just Beyond

This 8-episode series “Just Beyond” has been created by writer Seth Grahame-Smith and is produced by 20th Century Fox Television. The horror/comedy anthology, is based on the best-selling BOOM!  The series is expected to come to Disney+ in the fall of 2021.


The following titles will be coming to Disney+ internationally via the “Star” brand.  These will be available on Hulu in the United States.


The Old Man

The Old Man starring Academy Award and Golden Globe award winner Jeff Bridges, Emmy and GoldenGlobe award winner John Lithgow, and Emmy and Golden Globe award nominated Amy Brenneman, is a new FX drama series starring Jeff Bridges as a former CIA operative who is forced to reconcile with his past. The Old Man, based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Thomas Perry, is written by John Steinberg & Robert Levine, directed by Jon Watts, and executive produced by Warren Littlefield, Steinberg, Dan Shotz, Levine, Bridges, David Schiff and Watts. (produced by 20th Television)


American Horror Stories

American Horror Stories is a new anthology series from Emmy and Golden Globe award winning producer Ryan Murphy spun off from FX’s biggest, longest running original drama hit, “American Horror Story”. (produced by 20th Television)


Platform

Platform, from BJ Novak, an actor and award-winning writer of “The Office,” is a half-hour anthologicaltelevision series from FX that uses the boldest issues of our times as a jumping off point to tell singular, character-driven stories about the world we live in today. The series will feature a different cast each episode. The first episode stars Lucas Hedges, Kaitlyn Dever, O’Shea Jackson Jr., George Wallace, Ed Asner, Brendan Francis Scannell, among others. The second episode stars Jon Bernthal, Boyd Holbrook, Amy Landecker, Beau Bridges, and more. Novak serves as executive producer and the series is produced by FX Productions. (produced by FXP)


Y: The Last Man

Y: The Last Man is a new FX drama series based on DC Comics’ acclaimed series of the same name by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra. Y: The Last Man traverses a post-apocalyptic world in which a cataclysmic event decimates every mammal with a Y chromosome but for one cisgender man and his pet monkey. The series follows the survivors in this new world as they struggle with their efforts to restore what was lost and the opportunity to build something better. Eliza Clark serves as showrunner and an executive producer along with Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Mari Jo Winkler-Ioffreda, Vaughn and Melina Maksoukas. The series stars Diane Lane, Ashley Romans, Ben Schnetzer, Olivia Thirlby, Amber Tamblyn, Marin Ireland, Diana Bang, Elliot Fletcher and Juliana Canfield. The series is produced by FX Productions and will premiere exclusively on FX on Hulu. (produced by FXP)


Reservation Dogs

Reservation Dogs, a new half hour comedy, coming-of-age story about four Native American teenagers growing up on a reservation in eastern Oklahoma who spend their days committing crimes… and fighting it. The series co-created by Sterlin Harjo, a Native American who also directed the pilot episode, and Academy Award-winner Taika Waititi (“JoJo Rabbit,” “What We Do in the Shadows”). The series stars D’Pharoah Woon-A-Tai, Devery Jacobs, Paulina Alexis and Lane Factor. Reservation Dogs is executive produced by Sterlin Harjo, Taika Waititi and Garrett Basch.


Only Murders In The Building

Only Murders In The Building follows three strangers (played by Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez) who share an obsession with true crime and suddenly find themselves wrapped up in one. The 10-episode series is expected to debut in 2021.  Co-creators and co-writers Steve Martin and John Hoffman executive produce along with Martin Short, Selena Gomez, Jamie Babbitt, “This is Us” creator Dan Fogelman and Jess Rosenthal. 20th Television, part of Disney TV Studios, is the studio.


The Dropout

The Dropout is inspired by the ABC News podcast of the same name chronicling the rise and fall of Elizabeth Holmes (played by Kate McKinnon) and her company, Theranos. The series will explore what caused the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire, once heralded as “the next Steve Jobs,” to lose everything in the blink of an eye. The eight-episode series is expected to debut in 2021.

The Dropout is executive produced by Kate McKinnon, showrunner Liz Meriwether and the producing team behind the ABC News podcast, host and Chief Business, Technology and Economics Correspondent for ABC News Rebecca Jarvis, Taylor Dunn and Victoria Thompson. The series comes to Hulu from Searchlight Television and 20th Television.


Dopesick

Dopesick is an ambitious, harrowing, and compelling look into the epicenter of America’s struggle with Opioid addiction, taking viewers from a distressed Virginia mining community to the hallways of the DEA, and to the opulence of “one percenter” Big Pharma Manhattan. The unsparing yet deeply human portraits of the various affected families and their intersecting stories hold up a mirror to where America is right now, while shining a hopeful light on the heroes battling the worst drug epidemic in American history. The eight-episode series is expected to debut in 2021.

Dopesick is written by Emmy winner Danny Strong (“Empire,” “Recount,” “Game Change”) and directed by Oscar winner Barry Levinson (“Paterno,” “Rain Man”). Executive producers for Dopesick include Danny Strong, John Goldwyn (“Dexter”), Barry Levinson, Warren Littlefield (“The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Fargo,” “The Old Man”), Beth Macy (Dopesick) and Karen Rosenfelt (“Twilight”). The limited series is based on the New York Times bestselling book of the same name by Beth Macy, coming to Hulu from 20th Television and The Littlefield Company.  The series stars Michael Keaton, Peter Sarsgaard, Will Poulter, John Hoogenakker with Kaitlyn Dever and Rosario Dawson.


Note – As we know with 2020, things can change and some shows on this list might not necessarily arrive in 2021!

 

When compared to the first year of Disney+, 2021 is already looking jampacked, with so many more series and I suspect there will be many more set to arrive throughout 2021, which haven’t yet been revealed.
