Way back at the Disney Investor Day in 2020, it was revealed that Walt Disney Animation Studios was developing a new animated series for Disney+ called “Tiana”, which is a followup to “The Princess And The Frog”.

In the new series, Tiana sets off for a grand new adventure as the newly crowned Princess of Maldonia, but a calling to her New Orleans past isn’t far behind.

Originally, Disney had announced that the show would be released on Disney+ in 2023; however, the release was pushed back, though no more information has been revealed.

On Monday, Disney held a special presentation event called “This Is Magic” at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World for the press to promote some of the new experiences coming to the theme park this summer, including the Country Bear Musical Jamboree opening on July 17th and also a preview of a new musical “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure”.

The main reason for the event was to promote the reopening on June 28th 2024, of the classic attraction, “Splash Mountain”, which was closed down last year to be renamed “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure”, which is themed around “The Princess And The Frog”.

During the event, Disney confirmed that the “Tiana” series is coming soon to Disney+ and will continue the story after the events of “The Princess and the Frog.” Unfortunately, no other details about the series were revealed, but it’s the first time in years that Disney has said anything publicly about the series, reconfirming that the project is still in development.

It was also revealed that the series also takes place after the events of the new attraction, “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure”, which sees you head off on an adventure with Tiana, who is searching for an essential missing ingredient she needs to create the biggest soiree during Mardi Gras season on this side of the bayou.

It was revealed last October that Joyce Sherri was working on the show as the lead writer and director, but we’ve not heard much about this series in a few years.

While we wait, you can watch “The Princess And The Frog” on Disney+ now.

Roger’s Take: Since Disney was under so much pressure during the pandemic to keep shareholders happy, during that epic four-hour Investor Day event in 2020, Disney announced way too many titles in advance, many of which still haven’t hit our screens like “Ironheart”, “Skeleton Crew” and “Win Or Lose”, with some projects even quietly cancelled. We’ve heard very little about the “Tiana” series in the last four years, though hopefully, we might get some proper information, like a teaser trailer or even a release window at D23.

Are you looking forward to watching “Tiana”? Let me know on social media!
