This past weekend, Anne Hathaway took to social media to confirm that she is indeed returning for a third “Princess Dairies” film.

The original “Princess Diaries” film was released in 2001, and Anne plays the role of Mia Thermopolis, who learns she is a princess.

It was so successful that a second film was released in 2004 called “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement”, which saw Chris Pine play the role of Nicholas Devereaux, who was the love interest. While it’s been expected that he would be returning, on a recent appearence on the “Today with Hoda and Jenna”, Chris revealed that he doesn’t know anything about the sequel yet.

“I don’t know anything,”

The hosts seemed surprised that Chris didn’t know anything about the upcoming third film, saying

“Call Disney! Call Bob Iger! Honestly, I don’t know anything about it. I think it’s fantastic.”

Later that day, Chris also appeared on the Jimmy Fallon show and was also asked about the upcoming film, once again saying that he only found out about it on the internet at the same time as the rest of us.

Chris Pine has recently starred in the Disney animated film, “Wish”, along with “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves”, plus the “Wonder Women” and “Star Trek” franchises.

The upcoming third film is going to be directed by Adele Lim, who has previously written the Disney animated film, “Raya And The Last Dragon”, plus she has directed “Joy Ride” and also worked on a number of shows as a writer/producer on “Star-Crossed”, “One Tree Hill” and “Lethal Weapon”.

“Princess Diaries 3” will be produced by Debra Martin Chase, with executive producers including Naia Cucukov and Melissa Stack. Flora Greeson is writing the screenplay.

Both “The Princess Diaries” movies are available to stream on Disney+ now.

Roger’s Take: It wouldn’t be the first time that an actor “pretends” to not know anything about an upcoming project, possibly because a contract hasn’t yet been signed, or is under an NDA not to discuss anything. Or, he could be telling the truth and hasn’t yet been involved in the project since it’s still in the very early stages of development.
