“Chang Can Dunk” Series Rumoured For Disney+
Earlier this year, Disney released a brand new original film called “Chang Can Dunk” on Disney+, which follows Chang, a 16-year-old, Asian American high school student in the marching band, who bets the school basketball star that he can dunk by Homecoming. The bet leads the 5’ 8″ Chang on a quest to find the hops he needs to dunk in order to impress his crush, Kristy, and finally gain the attention and respect of his high school peers. But before he can rise up and truly throw one down, he’ll have to reexamine everything he knows about himself, his friendships and his family.
The film was written and directed by Jingyi Shao, making his feature film debut, the inspiring coming-of-age sports comedy stars Bloom Li, Dexter Darden, Ben Wang, Zoe Renee, Chase Liefeld and Mardy Ma. The film’s producers are Rishi Rajani, Lena Waithe and Brad Weston, with Pamela Thur serving as executive producer.
According to The DisInsider, there is a rumour that Disney is looking into making a “Chang Can Dunk” series for Disney+ that would continue the story. It’s unclear how far Disney is in development on this project, and with the actors/writers’ strikes underway, we are unlikely to hear anything on this project for a while if it is happening.
It’s unknown how well “Chang Can Dunk” did on Disney+ when it was released in March, since Disney doesn’t release data on its streaming services unless it is a huge success and the film didn’t make the Nielsen streaming chart.
Again, it’s important to note that this is a rumour, and nothing has been officially announced regarding a “Chang Can Dunk” series.
While we wait to see if a “Chang Can Dunk” series is in development for Disney+, you can check out the original film on Disney+ now.
