“Alien: Romulus” Hulu Viewership Numbers Revealed
Last week, Disney released the latest instalment in the 20th Century Studios franchise, “Alien”, called “Alien: Romulus” on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States (and on Disney+ in Canada).
“Alien: Romulus” is the start of a new chapter with a brand-new story, unlike any other “Alien” movie that came before it. The film tells the story of what happens when, scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonisers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.
According to some new information from Samba TV, “Alien Romulus” was watched by 484,000 households in the United States on Hulu in the first four days. It was also revealed that Hispanic households were particularly into the xenomorphs, over-indexing by 18% compared to the rest of the US.
It’s unclear if views via Hulu On Disney+ were included in these numbers. Disney hasn’t officially revealed any details on how well the film has performed on the platform; this could be down to them waiting on releasing five-day numbers or not viewing it as a big enough success to release official data.
The film stars Cailee Spaeny (“Civil War”), David Jonsson (“Agatha Christie’s Murder is Easy”), Archie Renaux (“Shadow and Bone”), Isabela Merced (“The Last of Us”), Spike Fearn (“Aftersun”), Aileen Wu. Fede Alvarez (“Evil Dead,” “Don’t Breathe”) directs from a screenplay he wrote with frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues (“Don’t Breathe 2”) based on characters created by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett.
“Alien: Romulus” is produced by Ridley Scott (“Napoleon”), who directed the original “Alien” and produced and directed the series’ entries “Prometheus” and “Alien: Covenant,” Michael Pruss (“Boston Strangler”), and Walter Hill (“Alien”), with Fede Alvarez, Elizabeth Cantillon (“Charlie’s Angels”), Brent O’Connor (“Bullet Train”), and Tom Moran (“Unstoppable”) serving as executive producers.
Roger’s Take: The viewership numbers for “Alien: Romulus” are on par with some other recent streaming releases, including “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice” and “Despicable Me 4”. It’s a pretty solid debut and no doubt it will continue to pull in views over the coming weeks and months ahead. Plus, the film hasn’t yet been released on Disney+ in many countries such as the UK and Australia, so there won’t be an initial higher global release viewership number as we’ve seen with “Inside Out 2” or “Deadpool & Wolverine”.
