Following the huge success of the new live action remake of the animated classic, Aladdin, work on a sequel is now underway. And it will be a theatrical release, so won’t be a Disney+ exclusive, though there have been previous reports of a Disney+ Original movie based on Prince Anders.

According to Variety, two new writers have been brought into work on the new film, John Gatins, who previously wrote Flight and Real Steel,  in addition to Andrea Berloff, who wrote Straight Outta Compton and The Kitchen.

The movies director, Guy Ritchie is expected to return, with Will Smith, Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott also expected to reprise their roles.

No plot details have been revealed about the sequel, as Disney spent some time last year with writers putting together other ideas, such as looking into other stories from One Thousand and One Nights, which is a collection of Middle Eastern folk tales such as Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves and Sinbad the Sailor. It also won’t be based on the animated sequels like “The Return Of Jafar” and “King of Thieves”.

The original animated movie and the newest live action version are available on Disney+.
