“Is This Thing On?” Coming Soon To Hulu & Disney+
Disney has announced that the Searchlight Pictures movie, “Is This Thing On?”, will be coming to Hulu and Disney+ later this month.
Directed by Academy Award–nominated filmmaker Bradley Cooper (A Star Is Born, Maestro), the film follows Alex (Will Arnett), who turns to late-night comedy clubs as an unlikely form of therapy while navigating a faltering marriage. To prepare for the role, Arnett spent roughly six weeks writing and performing stand-up material in real clubs nearly every night. Arnett also co-wrote the film with Cooper and Mark Chappell (See How They Run), from a story by Arnett, Chappell, and John Bishop (The John Bishop Show), whose life inspired the character of Alex.
To prepare for the role, Arnett spent roughly six weeks writing and performing stand-up material in comedy clubs across New York nearly every night. Arnett also co-wrote the film with Cooper and Mark Chappell (See How They Run), from a story by Arnett, Chappell, and John Bishop, whose life inspired the character of Alex.
The film features an ensemble cast including Laura Dern, Andra Day, Cooper, Christine Ebersole, Ciarán Hinds, Amy Sedaris, Sean Hayes (one of Arnett’s partners in the popular podcast Smartless) and Scott Icenogle (real-life husband of Hayes, adding to the authenticity of their roles).
Searchlight Pictures’ “Is This Thing On?” will begin streaming on Hulu and on Hulu on Disney+ (for bundle subscribers in the U.S.) and on Disney+ in Canada on March 20th 2026. The international release on Disney+ will likely be a little later since the film was released in cinemas after the North American release. “Is This Thing On?” is also available to purchase/rent on digital platforms.
