“Star Wars: A New Hope” To Be Re-Released For The 50th Anniversary
Disney has announced that it will be re-releasing the original 1977 version of the classic sci-fi movie, “Star Wars: A New Hope” in cinemas for a limited time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic franchise.
In the movie that kicked off the iconic franchise, Luke Skywalker begins a journey that will change the galaxy. Nineteen years after the formation of the Empire, Luke is thrust into the struggle of the Rebel Alliance when he meets Obi-Wan Kenobi, who has lived for years in seclusion on the desert planet of Tatooine. Obi-Wan begins Luke’s Jedi training as Luke joins him on a daring mission to rescue the beautiful Rebel leader Princess Leia from the clutches of Darth Vader and the evil Empire.
Over the years, the movie has been re-released on many occasions, often for major anniversary, but with each re-release, the film has gone through some changes, including new scenes added and special effects touched up, to match the current technology, especially around the time of the release of the prequels.
Changes had been made to the film in 1997 for the 20th anniversary, followed by more touch-ups in 2004 when it was released on DVD, and for a Blu-Ray release in 2011, before its latest update in 4K in 2019.
Due to all the changes, many Star Wars fans have been wanting to watch the original version, as not everyone has been happy with the constant alterations to how the film looks. No doubt, the 50th anniversary re-release will be very popular.
The movie will be re-released in cinemas on February 19th 2027, and hopefully, this classic version will also be made available on Disney+ at a later date. The film is also still available to stream on Disney+, though that’s the latest version of the movie with all the changes for the 4K re-release.
