Disney+ Developing “The Kane Chronicles” Series
Following the massive success of “Percy Jackson And The Olympians” on Disney+, which returns for its third season later this year, it’s been revealed that 20th Television is now working on a live-action adaptation of Rick Riordan‘s “The Kane Chronicles” for Disney+.
The new show will tell the story of what happens when their father unleashes the god of chaos and vanishes, the estranged Kane siblings must master their inherited Egyptian magic, forge unlikely alliances, and rescue their father before warring gods can wreak havoc on our modern world.
The book series consists of three books, “The Red Pyramid”, “The Throne of Fire”, and “The Serpent’s Shadow”.
“The Kane Chronicles” follows a similar theme to “Percy Jackson And The Olympians”, but instead of expanding Greek mythology, “The Kane Chronicles” uses Egyptian mythology and is set in the same “universe” as Percy Jackson.
Rick Riordan will once again be returning to create the show, along with Angela Robinson, who has previously worked on “How to Get Away with Murder”. They will both be executive producers along with Rebecca Riordan and Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Jeremy Bell for The Gotham Group.
This isn’t the first time development on a “The Kane Chronicles” project has happened, as Netflix had been working on a feature film, but it never got off the ground, and Disney’s 20th Television picked up the rights when they returned to Rick in 2024.
Roger’s Take: This move shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, especially considering the success of the “Percy Jackson” show, which is easily the most successful non-Marvel/Star Wars original on the platform. So it makes total sense why Disney would want to try to continue that momentum, hopefully landing a year or so after the fifth season of “Percy Jackson”, which should mark the end of that book series, should enough people check out seasons three and beyond. Disney+ is in constant need of new original programming, and there is very little appealing to the family market like “Percy Jackson”.
