“The Rookie: North” Pilot In Development

One of the most popular drama shows on ABC is “The Rookie”, which has run for eight seasons and tells the story of John Nolan, who is the oldest rookie in the LAPD, and has used his life experience, determination and sense of humour to keep up with rookies 20 years his junior. Nearing the end of his training, Nolan now faces his biggest challenge as a police officer when he must come to terms with the choices he has made in pursuit of the truth

Disney has already attempted making a spin-off series, “The Rookie: Feds”, but that was canceled after one season, but that hasn’t stopped another spin-off from going into development, called “The Rookie: North”.

This new series will star Jay Ellis, who has previously starred in “Running Point” and “All Her Fault”. The main focus of the story will be similar to the main “Rookie” series and will be about a middle-aged guy called Alex Holland, who becomes the oldest rookie cop while transplanting the setting from an urban Los Angeles to a rural Washington state environment.

Alex Holland believed his midlife wasn’t worthy of a crisis. But after a violent home invasion ignites a dormant purpose, Alex battles a lifetime of failed commitments by joining the Pierce County Police Department as its oldest rookie. Policing from the urban coast to the rural forest, where backup isn’t just 5 minutes away, Alex must prove to his sceptical training officer, his fellow rookies, and himself that he’s finally found something worthy of the fight.

According to Deadline, a pilot for the project is set to be written and directed by Alexi Hawley, who will also be an executive producer along with Nathan Fillion, Mark Gordon, Bill Norcross and Michelle Chapman. Ellis is also a producer on the project.

Should the project get picked up for a full series, we should expect to see it released on ABC, Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States. Internationally, a Disney+ release isn’t guaranteed, since the show is going to be co-produced by Lionsgate, 20th Television and Warner Bros. TV.
