The 50th Annual Annie Awards took place on Saturday night at the UCLA’s Royce Hall in Los Angeles, which saw Disney’s “Zootopia+” and “Avatar: The Way Of Water” pick up awards.  The event was dominated by Pinocchio winning five awards, but unfortunately for Disney, it wasn’t for their recent Disney+ Original, but for Guillermo del Toro’s version of Netflix.

Also, during the event, Pixar CEO Pete Docter received the Winsor McCay Award, which was presented to him by Disney CEO Bob Iger, saying:

“one of the greatest animation filmmakers of his generation. It’s hard to think of anyone who has left a bigger mark, both literally and figuratively, on animation over the past three decades.”

Pete Doctor said during his acceptance speech that

“It’s moments like this that make real realize how truly wonderful it has been.  The only thing that would make it better was if there were other nominees so I could feel like I beat someone.”

The Disney+ Original short series, “Zootopia”, picked up the award for Best Voice Acting, for the short, “The Godfather of the Bride”, which saw Maurice LaMarche playing the character, Mr. Big.

“Avatar: The Way Of Water” won two awards for Best FX and Character Animation, Live Action.
