Disney’s FX has cast Y’lan Noel as the lead in a pilot for “The Spook Who Sat by the Door”,  which is a drama based on Sam Greenlee’s spy novel of the same name.

“The Spook Who Sat by the Door” is a fictional story of Dan Freeman (played by Y’lan Noel), who has just been hired as the only Black operative in the CIA. He is a patriot, a Vietnam vet, and secretly, a Black Revolutionary.

This new project will be executive produced by Lee Daniels.  It has been written by Leigh Dana Jackson and will be directed by Gerard McMurray, who previously worked with Y’lan Noel on “The First Purge”.

Gerard McMurray and Marc Velez will also serve as executive producers and Leigh Dana Jackson will serve as showrunner.

The show will be created by 20th Television. So if the pilot is picked up, we should expect to see the show on Hulu in the US and as a “Star Original” on Disney+ internationally.
