Willow Sequel Series Being Discussed For Disney+
Disney and Lucasfilm are in serious discussions to create a sequel to the 1988 movie, Willow, for Disney+.
Director Ron Howard confirmed that Solo: A Star Wars Story writer, Jon Kasdan, is in talks with Disney on MTV’s “Happy Sad Confused” podcast.
“There are some really serious discussions going on with Jon Kasdan, who was one of the writers of Solo, who kept hounding me about Willow the whole time we were shooting and also hounding Kathy Kennedy. We’re in discussions about developing a Willow television show for the Disney+. And I think it’d be a great way to go. In fact, George always talked about the possibility of a Willow series, and it’d be great and more intimate, and built around that character and some of the others. And Jon Kasdan has, I think, an inspired take on it and it could be really, really cool.”
The series would be set 30+ years after the original and Warrick Davis would be returning to the title role, with Ron Howard saying:
“Warwick will be in it. Warwick is so cool and so good and he’s such a good actor that I really hope we get the chance to see the mature Willow in action.”
Ron Howard has been pushing for Disney to bring back Willow for a while, but Disney+ could be the right path for its return to our screens.
Would you like to see a new Disney+ series based on Willow?
NO. Disney has no business making a Willow sequel when they are sitting on the film rights to a live action Chronicles of Prydain. THAT has the potential to be their flagship fantasy series if they’d just get off their asses.
Forget Willow, do the Prydain Chronicles, make right the mistake you made with the original Black Cauldron Movie.
