Way back at the Investor Day event in 2020, Disney announced it was working on another sequel to the classic ’90s comedy movie, “Sister Act”. The film will see Whoopi Goldberg return as Deloris, a lounge singer, who, in the original film, was persuaded to go into witness protection as a nun at a convent after she witnesses a murder. But once there, she has trouble adjusting to her new lifestyle.

Since the Investor Day, we’ve had small updates on the film, including a video of Whoopi Goldberg visiting the Vatican two years ago to organise a possible scene from the third film.

This past week, during the red carpet event for the Oscars, Whoopi Goldberg provided an update on the film, when she was asked what her next acting role would be, to which she responded,

“Who knows? Who knows? We’ll see,” she said before adding, “Hopefully, Sister Act 3.”

Whoopi also revealed that the final script has been submitted to Disney, and she’s hoping the movie will “happen sometime this year”.  She added:

“It doesn’t matter what I think. It only matters if Disney wants to do it.”

No other details have yet been announced about the upcoming third film, which has been in development for years, such as a plot or whether it will be released in cinemas or Disney+ first.

Tim Federle will direct the upcoming movie, which will also star Wendy Makkena, Kathy Najimy, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Keke Palmer.

Hopefully, the new “Sister Act” movie will be released soon, but while we wait, both of the original films are available to stream now on Disney+.

Roger’s Take: This is a good example of one of the projects announced at the Disney Investor Day event that should never have been announced, as the project was nowhere near ready to be revealed to the public. After all these years, I also wonder if this project will actually go ahead at Disney, especially with the political changes in the United States.
