“Washington Black” Soundtrack Out Now
Following the release of the new original limited series, “Washington Black” on Hulu and Disney+, Hollywood Records has released the soundtrack to the series on digital platforms including Spotify, Apple, Amazon and YouTube.
Based on the bestselling novel of the same name, “Washington Black” follows the 19th-century odyssey of George Washington “Wash” Black, an eleven-year-old boy born on a Barbados sugar plantation, whose prodigious scientific mind sets him on a path of unexpected destiny. When a harrowing incident forces Wash to flee, he is thrust into a globe-spanning adventure that challenges and reshapes his understanding of family, freedom and love. As he navigates uncharted lands and impossible odds, Wash finds the courage to imagine a future beyond the confines of the society he was born into.
The soundtrack features an original score by Cameron Moody, who is a rising voice in film and television music, and has crafted a sweeping, emotionally resonant score for the new series, drawing on a lifetime of musical passion and a journey that began in Atlanta and led to the legendary scoring stages of Hollywood.
“Conducting is like lining up in front of a golf ball. It’s peaceful. It’s terrifying. But once you load up and swing and you hear the music come alive… there are very few things like it.”
The score for “Washington Black” reflects the show’s global journey from Barbados to the Artic and its emotional core.
“If I had to describe the score in one word, it would be ‘classic.’ We wanted it to feel big and appropriate for the size of the story. This is really a story about freedom and the lengths a person will go to achieve that.”
