Tim Federle Creating “Coven Academy” Series For Disney+ & Disney Channel
Disney Branded Television has given a pilot order to a brand new supernatural dramedy for the Disney Channel and Disney+, which is currently going by the working title of “Coven Academy”.
The show will focus on a coven of teenage witches-in-training must protect their town from a looming threat. No other plot details have been revealed, nor any information on who will star in “Coven Academy”.
According to Deadline, the new series has been written by Tim Federle, who has an overall deal with Disney and he has previously created the Disney+ Original series, “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” and the Disney+ Original film, “Better Nate Than Ever”.
He is also currently developing the third “Sister Act” film. Tim will also be an executive producer on the upcoming live-action comedy series, “Vampiric”, which will be coming to the Disney Channel and Disney+ later this year. Also executive producing the series will be Bronwyn North-Reist.
As with any pilot, it doesn’t necessarily automatically a done deal and we will see the show released on the Disney Channel and Disney+, as not every pilot gets turned into a full series, though often, they will tweak the pilot to improve things and hopefully we will get an official update on “Coven Academy” soon.
Roger’s Take: Disney has had great success with shows featuring wizards and witches, such as recent originals like “Agatha All Along,” “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,” and “Hocus Pocus 2,” so it makes sense that Disney is leaning into this magical theme.
