“The Simpsons”, “American Dad”, “Family Guy” & “Bob’s Burgers” Renewed For Four Seasons
Four of the biggest animated shows from 20th Television Animation, “The Simpsons”, “American Dad”, “Family Guy” and “Bob’s Burgers”, will be returning for four more seasons.
FOX Entertainment has announced that it has ordered four-season renewals, running through to the 2028-29. This means the “The Simpsons” will now run through to its 40th season and “Bob’s Burgers” will continue through to its 19th season. “Family Guy” will now run through to the 27th season and “American Dad” will run through to season 23.
Disney+ and Hulu remain the exclusive global streaming home of these four iconic animated series, boasting a collective library of all 2,000 episodes. Last year, both “Family Guy” and “Bob’s Burgers” were ranked as two of the Top 10 most streamed shows in the U.S., according to Nielsen, with 42.44 billion and 36.79 billion minutes viewed, respectively.
This new deal lines up with FOX’s multi-year next day deal with Hulu, meaning all of these shows will be available the next day on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States. These shows are also released exclusveily on Disney+ in many countries around the world.
Recently it was revealed that “American Dad” would be leaving TBS after ten years and returning to FOX, which is where it debuted in 2005 and now the move has been confirmed.
There will be a change for all of these shows, as each season will now only 15 episodes per season, down from the previous number of 22. However, Disney is expected to continue making exclusive specials for Hulu/Disney+ of many of its shows like “The Simpsons” and “Family Guy”.
Michael Thorn, President of FOX Television Network, said in a statement regarding the renewals:
“This new deal celebrates the eternal popularity of these iconic comedies, as well as the enduring, prolific relationship we continue to enjoy with our friends at 20th Television Animation and the brilliant creators – that goes double for Seth this time around — and incredible voices behind these contemporary classics.”
Rob Wade, CEO of FOX Entertainment, added:
“The longevity of this agreement reaffirms our commitment to the successful partnership we’ve built with the incredible team at Disney. This collaboration has and will continue to generate meaningful long-term value and strategically build audiences from FOX to Hulu to fans worldwide.”
Marci Proietto, head of 20th Television Animation, also stated:
“This historic four-season order from our longtime partners at FOX is truly monumental for these iconic animated series. We are so proud that these legendary shows will continue for hundreds of more episodes, allowing new and longstanding fans to watch, rewatch and experience more of The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad and Bob’s Burgers for years to come”.
“The Simpsons” is a Gracie Films Production in association with 20th Television Animation from creator Matt Groening, developed by James L. Brooks, Matt Groening and Sam Simon and executive produced by James L. Brooks, Matt Groening and showrunner Matt Selman. Seth MacFarlane is creator and executive producer of “Family Guy” with Rich Appel an Alec Sulkin serving as executive producers and showrunners. “Bob’s Burgers” was created and is executive produced by Loren Bouchard with Nora Smith and Holly Schlesinger serving as executive producers and showrunners.
Roger’s Take: This is a massive deal for Disney and also FOX, with the future of all of these successful shows being secured for another four years. FOX is going to have access to four major titles, which it can space out throughout the year with the shorter seasons, intertwined with its own original animated programming. The next day on Hulu/Hulu On Disney+ deal also means Disney can continue to benefit while keeping costs down by getting FOX to license the initial viewing. Internationally, this is great for Disney+.
The previous seasons of “The Simpsons”, “American Dad”, “Family Guy” and “Bob’s Burgers” are available to stream on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and on Disney+ internationally.
