“American Dad” Possibly Moving From TBS To FOX
One of the most popular animated series created by 20th Television is “American Dad”, which tells the story of Stan Smith, who leads the all-American family in this animated sitcom. Everyday life is taken to the limit as Stan applies the same drastic measures used in his job at the CIA to his home life. Driven by machismo and the American dream, he is often blind to how horribly he fails at his attempts.
The show debuted in 2005 and has run for almost 400 episodes over twenty seasons, regularly being one of the most popular shows on Hulu and Disney+.
Originally, “American Dad” premiered on FOX and, after eleven seasons, headed to TBS for its twelfth season, and it’s been reported that the season will be leaving TBS and could possibly be returning to FOX with a multiple season renewal. Though there has been no official confirmation of the move from TBS to FOX has been announced.
The latest season is set to come to a close on TBS on Monday 24th March at 10c, but will likely no longer be the destination for first-run episodes, but still has a deal in place to show reruns of past seasons on TBS and Adult Swim until 2030. TBS has been slowly moving away from original programming, as it’s owner Warner Brothers Discovery has been cutting its costs.
Disney already has a major deal worth over $1.5 billion to bring FOX content to Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ the day after it airs on the FOX linear channel. FOX already broadcasts multiple animated shows from 20th Television, including “The Simpsons”, “Family Guy”, “The Great North”, and “Bob’s Burgers”.
“American Dad” stars Seth MacFarlane, Wendy Schaal, Scott Grimes, Rachael MacFarlane, Jeff Fischer, Dee Bradley Baker, and Patrick Stewart. It was created by Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman, and is executive produced by co-showrunner Brian Boyle along with MacFarlane and Weitzman.
You can stream the previous nineteen seasons of “American Dad” on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and all twenty seasons on Disney+ in many countries internationally.
Roger’s Take: Shifting the show to FOX is a little surprising, since moving “American Dad” to Hulu would have also made sense (especially since new episodes of the show are released exclusively on Disney+ first in many countries), similar to how “Futurama” was picked up by Hulu. However, getting FOX to pick up some of the costs of making the series will no doubt be a major incentive, especially since the show still has so many licensing deals in place. Plus, Hulu and Disney+ will still get access to new episodes the next day due to the FOX deal anyway.
