Disney has announced that the “Taiwan Crime Stories” is coming to Disney+ in Australia, New Zealand and Canada on Wednesday, 4th January 2023. It will also be released on Disney+ in many other countries around the world on the same day, including in Taiwan.

The new Mandarin-language psychological thriller series has been inspired by four true crime investigations: a terror-stricken mass murder of a family; a chilling rape; a murder case, and a fraud and injustice case.

“Taiwan Crime Stories” is an international collaboration, between Calfilms (Taiwan), Sixty Percent Productions (Hong Kong), and Imagine Entertainment (US).   The series will consist of twelve episodes and each episode will be 60 minutes each. There are four different directors involved in the project, each taking on one of the cases. The directors include Aozura Shiao, Tzu-Hsuan Hung, Yang-Chung Fan, and the team of Jui-Liang Hsu and Shu-Ting Liang.

The new series will star Rhydian Vaughan, Patrick Shih, Simon Hsueh, Allison Lin, Frederick Lee, and Wang Po-Chieh.

Imagine’s Brian Grazer and Ron Howard said in a joint statement earlier this year about the project:

“The thrill of storytelling is universal, and it has been a privilege for us to have been able to work hand-in-hand with this talented and inspired group of international directors and writers on Taiwan Crime Stories.  We are excited to extend our partnership with Disney into the international marketplace to bring this series to the local market and to audiences worldwide.”
