Taika Waititi Signs New First-Look Deal With Disney’s 20th Television, FX & Hulu
Over the years, Taika Waititi has worked with many of Disney’s studios including Marvel, FX and Searchlight Pictures on multiple projects such as “JoJo Rabbit”, “Thor: Ragnarok”, “Star Wars: The Mandalorian”, “Reservation Dogs”, “Interior Chinatown”, “What We Do In The Shadows” and most recently, on the holiday short, “A Disney Holiday Short: Best Christmas Ever,”
It’s been revealed by Deadline that Taika Waititi has signed a new first-look deal with 20th Television, FX Productions and Hulu.
As part of this deal, Taika will develop and direct original series for 20th Television and FX Productions, targeting all linear networks and streamers, with priority given to Disney Entertainment Television platforms, FX and Hulu.
Taika is currently developing a new half-hour comedy series for Hulu with Barry writer-producer Jason Kim, called “Last Look”. This new comedy is set in a luxury fashion house. It depicts the lives of the underdogs who work tirelessly to make the fashions come to life – and the fabulous monsters who design them.
He is also working on a pilot of “Very Young Frankenstein” with 20th Television, which he directed and executive-produced. The project is currently in post-production.
Roger’s Take: It doesn’t come as a huge surprise to see that Taika has signed a new first-look deal with Disney, as they’ve worked together on many different shows and films over the years. While they might not connect with everyone, personally, I think he’s generally had more hits than misses. Hopefully, his new projects are all going to be hits.
