Super Bowl LX Becomes ‘Most-Watched Live Sporting Event’ On ESPN On Disney+ In Australia & New Zealand
This past weekend, the biggest sporting event of the year took place, the Super Bowl LX, which saw the Seattle Seahawks take on the New England Patriots.
Disney has announced that Super Bowl LX was the most-watched live sporting event on Disney+ in Australia and New Zealand (by hours streamed) since the launch of ESPN on Disney+ in March 2025.
In the game, the Seattle Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots and lifted the Vince Lombardi trophy at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, and the Super Bowl Halftime show featuring Puerto Rican superstar and Latin rap artist Bad Bunny entertained millions watching from around the world.
A replay of Super Bowl LX: Seattle Seahawks v New England Patriots is available on Disney+ for subscribers in Australia and New Zealand.
This year was the first time the Super Bowl and localised studio programming were available on ESPN on Disney+ in Australia and New Zealand, with an exclusive ANZ broadcast called by ESPN’s Chris Fowler, Dan Orlovsky, Louis Riddick and Australian Super Bowl champion Jordan Mailata.
The Super Bowl has been available on ESPN in Australia and New Zealand for more than two decades via distribution partners, including Foxtel, Kayo, Fetch TV and Sky NZ.
The Walt Disney Company Senior Vice President and Managing Director for Australia and New Zealand and Head of ESPN Asia Pacific, Kylie Watson-Wheeler, said in a statement regarding the viewership data:
“We’re thrilled to see fans enjoying live sports on Disney+, which is the home of great storytelling and great sport. ESPN’s live sport is proving to be a major driver of engagement on Disney+, with thousands of live events and an unmatched depth of content across dozens of sports and leagues.
This blockbuster Super Bowl viewership is the perfect demonstration of ESPN being the go-to destination for Aussies and Kiwis to watch the sporting events and cultural moments that simply can’t be missed.”
Locally, Disney+ further amplified Super Bowl LX with a special Watch Party in partnership with the NFL held in Melbourne.
ESPN is the primary rights holder in Australia and New Zealand for a collection of the best of US premium sports spanning the NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB – including the Super Bowl and NBA Finals – and offers localised studio programming such as NFL Blitz and Nothing But Net.
