With the Sundance Film Festival set to begin next week,  Disney’s Searchlight Pictures’ has announced “Suncoast”, is going to get its world premiere at the film festival on January 21st 2024, before being released on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ on February 9th 2024.

The film is about a teenager who, while caring for her brother along with her audacious mother, strikes up an unlikely friendship with an eccentric activist who is protesting one of the most landmark medical cases of all time.

Set in 2005 in St. Petersburg, Florida, “Suncoast” is a sensitively told coming-of-age story as Chinn’s young heroine finds friendship through unexpected connections and gestures and is forced to reckon with the gravity of her brother’s health.

“Suncoast” was written and directed by Laura Chinn and was inspired by her own teenage experience. 

It stars Laura Linney, Woody Harrelson, and Nico Parker.  Also starring in the series are Matt Walsh, Keyla Monterosso Mejia, Scott MacArthur, Ella Anderson, Daniella Taylor, Amarr, and Ariel Martin.

The music for the film has been created by Este Haim and Christopher Stracey.

Jeremy Plager, Francesca Silvestri, Kevin Chinoy and Oly Obst are producers on the film, with Chris Stinson and Amy Greene executive producing and Anna Schwartz serving as co-producer.

No international release details have been announced, though it’s likely we will see it released as a Star Original on Disney+ around the world.
