During this month’s Investor Day event, Disney revealed a brand new animated movie, “Encanto”, which will be coming to cinemas on November 24th, 2021.
According to the Illuminerdi, actress Stephanie Beatriz, will be playing the main character, “Maribel”. She is best known for playing Detective Rosa Diaz in the NBC comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine. She has also provided her voice to a number of animated movies & shows including “Ice Age: Collision Course”, “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part”, “Ducktales”, “Bob’s Burgers” and “Elena of Alavor”.
Encanto tells the tale of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia, in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift from super strength to the power to heal—every child except one, Mirabel. But when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family’s last hope.
The main character of the film will be a 15-year-old girl named Maribel who is described as a “lovable, funny, fallible, utterly human protagonist”. She uses her humor to cover up struggles with her self-worth. She is a true comedienne, akin to Lucille Ball. Maribel will also be the narrator of the film.
The film features all-new songs by Emmy, GRAMMY and Tony Award® winner Lin-Manuel Miranda (“Hamilton,” “Moana”) and is directed by Byron Howard (“Zootopia,” “Tangled”) and Jared Bush (co-director “Zootopia”), co-directed by Charise Castro Smith (writer “The Death of Eva Sofia Valdez”) and produced by Clark Spencer and Yvett Merino.
