“Star Wars: The Acolyte” Creator Planned For Multiple Seasons For Disney+
Earlier this week, Disney released the first trailer of the new Star Wars series, “The Acolyte”, for Disney+, which is going to be coming to the streaming service this summer.
In “Star Wars: The Acolyte,” an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems….
The series stars Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss.
Even though we’ve not even seen the first season of the upcoming show, “The Acolyte” could be a show that sticks around a while, as the show’s creator, Leslye Headland, spoke with Collider to promote the new series, where she was asked if there could be more than one season of “The Acolyte”, to which she replied:
“I would say that when I pitched it, I definitely pitched it as a multi-season show. There are a lot of things at the end of this season that I think are narrative threads that are not tied up, for sure. However, I am the type of writer that is not interested in an emotional cliffhanger. I want you to feel like you’ve had a particular type of catharsis, and an emotional experience in watching those eight episodes because I like rewarding the audience with that.”
Ultimately, the future of “The Acolyte” will depend on how well it performs when it’s released on Disney+. Disney has been exploring the era of the High Republic through books and comics, and the new Disney Junior animated series, “Young Jedi Adventures,” is set over a hundred years before the events of “The Phantom Menace.”
Unlike the previous Star Wars series, which were set between the different trilogies, the creators have much more freedom with “The Acolyte” to tell new, original stories. No doubt there will be many locations that we’ve seen before, but hopefully, this series is popular enough to allow Disney+ to stretch out its own path within the Star Wars universe while the Mandalorian heads onto the big screen.
The first two episodes of “The Acolyte” will be released on Disney+ on June 4th 2024, with a new episode being released each week.
