One of the new live-action Star Wars Disney+ series announced during December’s Investor Day event was “Rangers of the New Republic”, which is going to be set within the timeline of “The Mandalorian”.

“Rangers of the New Republic” is being created by executive producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni. It was also announced that the series will intersect with future stories and culminate into a climactic story event.   However, there hasn’t been any further news on the “Rangers Of The New Republic” series since it was announced.

When the series was announced, many speculated that the series is a “Mandalorian” spin-off series featuring Gina Carano’s Cara Dune, Bill Burr’s Mayfeld, and Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan. However, no characters or actors were officially announced for the show. This is because Disney was already weary of Gina Carano’s social media presence.

Then following some very controversial social media posts, Lucasfilm then distanced itself from Cara Dune actress, Gina Carano, stating they “there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

This left the “Rangers Of The New Republic” series in limbo. Recently, in an article in Variety, it was revealed that “Rangers of the New Republic,” is not currently in active development.

It’s still possible that the series will go back into development, with the show reworked with different characters or if the project will just be shelved completely.

Even without the “Rangers Of The New Republic”, there are multiple Star Wars series still in active development, including a third season of “The Mandalorian”, “Acolyte”, “Obi-Wan Kenobi”, the Rogue One prequel “Andor”,  “The Book of Boba Fett”, and “Ahsoka”.  So we’ve still got lots more Star Wars Disney+ series to look forward to.

What do you think of the “Rangers Of The New Republic” series not being currently in development?
