Today, Kwame Alexander, revealed the two actors who will be starring in the pilot for an upcoming Disney+ series based on his best selling book, “The Crossover”.
The book tells the story of 14-year-old Josh Bell and his twin brother Jordan, who are awesome on the court. But Josh has more than basketball in his blood, he’s got mad beats, too, that tell his family’s story in verse, in this fast and furious middle-grade novel of family and brotherhood. Josh and Jordan must come to grips with growing up on and off the court to realize breaking the rules comes at a terrible price, as their story’s heart-stopping climax proves a game-changer for the entire family.
This aspirational and emotional family drama is narrated entirely by Josh through his lyrical poetry.
In a video, Kwame Alexander announced that Jayln Hall will be playing Filthy, aka Josh and Amir O’Neil, will be playing Jordan.
Jayln Hall is currently starring in the CW series “All American” and also starred in Netflix’s “All Day and a Night”.
Amir O’Neilhas starred in “Mann and Wife”, “Marlon” and provides the voice of Marty the Zebra in the Hulu animated series Madagascar: A Little Wild.
This new Disney+ series has been written by Alexander and Damani Johnson (All Rise) with Dee Johnson (Nashville, The Good Wife) supervising, and it is going to be directed by George Tillman Jr. (The Hate U Give, For Life). They will all be an executive producing the series along with Bob Teitel and Jay Marcus.
