One of the most popular films from the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was “Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings”, which saw Simu Liu debut in the title role of Shang-Chi, who must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization.

While Disney has many Marvel Studios currently listed on the upcoming schedule, one film missing from that list is a sequel.  When the film was initially released, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed they already had plans for a sequel.

Recently, following the launch of the new social media platform, Threads, actor Simu Liu was asked about the status of “Shang-Chi 2”, to which he replied:

“was told it would follow Avengers, but that keeps pushing back due to circumstances beyond my control 🙁 hope to have more concrete news to share soon.”

Marvel currently has two “Avengers” films on its schedule, “The Kang Dynasty” is due to arrive on May 1st 2026 and “Secret Wars” is scheduled to arrive a year later on 7th May, 2027.   Recently, Benedict Cumberbatch revealed that he would be returning to the MCU and said that there are some Marvel capers in the making next year, which are thought to be connected to the first “Avengers” film, and many fans are also expecting “Shang-Chi” to return to our screens in the upcoming “Avengers” films, especially as the director of “Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings”, Destin Daniel Cretton, is going to be directing “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty”.

With the Marvel Studios schedule going through some major reshuffles, due to a variety of issues, including budget restrictions,  strikes, and a general feeling of superhero fatigue causing a decline in viewership/box office numbers.  No Marvel release date is set in stone, with most projects shifting around.  Since Marvel Studios is sitting out this year’s San Diego Comic-Con due to multiple reasons, we are probably unlikely to get a clearer outline of Marvel’s plans for a while.

Either way, it looks like we aren’t going to be Shang-Chi on our screens in a new adventure for a while, but in the meantime, “Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings” is available to stream now on Disney+.
