“Shifting Gears” To Feature “Home Improvement” Reunion

Over the past few years, we’ve seen plenty of rumours of a potential revival of “Home Improvement”, but instead, fans will be getting a reunion on the upcoming new season of the hit comedy, “Shifting Gears”, which is currently in production.

“Shifting Gears” follows Matt, the stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. When his estranged daughter, Riley, and her kids move into his house, the real restoration begins.

Tim Allen will be joined by Patricia Richardson, Richard Karn, and Debbe Dunning, who starred in the hit comedy series, “Home Improvement”. No details have been revealed about what characters they will play, but they support Allen’s character, Matt Parker, in an unexpected way in the season two premiere episode.

In “Home Improvement”, Patricia Richardson played Tim’s wife, Jill Taylor. While Richard Karn, played Al, who was Tim’s best friend and co-host of “Tool Time” and Debbe Dunning played the role of Heidi, who was another co-host of “Tool Time”.

This isn’t the first time Patricia and Richard have reunited with Tim Allen, as they both previously appeared in another sitcom, “Last Man Standing”.

“Shifting Gears” also stars Kat Dennings as Riley, Seann William Scott as Gabriel, Daryl Chill Mitchell as Stitch, Maxwell Simkins as Carter and Barrett Margolis as Georgia.

Tim Allen executive produces alongside Michelle Nader, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker, Rick Messina, John Pasquin, Jim Patterson, Bob Daily and John Amodeo. Kat Dennings is a producer. “Shifting Gears” is produced by 20th Television, and the first season is available to stream on Hulu and Disney+, as is “Home Improvement”.

The new season will premiere on ABC on Wednesday, 1st October 2025, with episodes dropping the next day on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+.
