Following the return of Bob Iger as the CEO of the Walt Disney Company, one of his first major announcements was that they would be making a sequel to the billion dollar smash hit animated film, “Zootopia”.

The upcoming film is set to arrive in cinemas for next year’s Thanksgiving and will see detectives Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde find themselves on the twisting trail of a mysterious reptile who arrives in Zootopia and turns the mammal metropolis upside down. To crack the case, Judy and Nick must go undercover to unexpected new parts of town, where their growing partnership is tested like never before.

“Zootopia 2” will see Ginnifer Goodwin return to voice clever bunny Judy, and Jason Bateman returns as the voice of wise-cracking fox Nick Wilde.  It was also previously announced at this year’s D23: The Ultimate Fan Event, that Ke Huy Quan  would be playing the role of a fugitive snake called Gary and Fortune Feimster will be playing a beaver named Nibbles.

Jared Bush will also return to direct and write the film, with Yvett Merino producing.

During today’s D23 Brazil event, Shakira took to the stage to confirm she will also be returning to playing Gazelle.  She also performed the hit song, “Try Everything”.  Fans in attendance also got a special look at the film,

Disney has released a new video featuring Shakira confirming the news of her return:

“I’m here to announce some big news. Are you ready? Gazelle is returning to Zootopia 2. That’s right. Gazelle is back and she’s got a new look, a new song and, of course, new dance moves. Just wait until you see what she and her tiger dancers have been working on. I know you’re going to love it. That’s all I can share for now, but I look forward to seeing you all on my tour next year and I’ll see you at the movies next November.”

While we wait for “Zootopia 2”, you can catch the first film, along with the original short series, “Zootopia+” on Disney+ now.

Roger’s Take:  It’s great that Sharika is returning for the sequel, as I’m a big fan of her music and “Try Everything” is one of my favourite Disney songs from the past decade, plus her making the announcement in person at the D23 Brazil event is perfect!
