One of the most popular animated franchises from 20th Century Studios is “Ice Age”, which has pulled in over one billion dollars at the box office and over six billion dollars in revenues, through its five theatrically released movies and Disney+ Original releases such as the spin-off movie, “The Ice Age Adventures Of Buck Wild”, and “Ice Age: Scrats Tales” short series.

The first film told the story of Manny the mammoth, Sid the loquacious sloth, and Diego the sabre-toothed tiger, who go on a comical quest to return a human baby back to his father, across a world on the brink of an ice age.  In the sequels, the friends became a family, with more characters joining in on their adventures.

Recently, on an appearance on the quiz show “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me,” John Leguizamo, who plays Sid The Sloth in the “Ice Age” movies, revealed that they are about to make “Ice Age 6.”

During today’s D23 Brazil event, Disney officially confirmed that production is now underway on the film, which will also be getting a theatrical release on the big screen in 2026.

Disney released a video featuring Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, and Queen Latifah, confirming the news.  It was also confirmed that Denis Leary and Simon Pegg would be returning for the upcoming film.

No plot details for the film have been announced, but with a couple of years until it hits the big screen, they’ve still got plenty of time to provide more details.

Roger’s Take:  It’s great that Disney has now officially confirmed that “Ice Age” is returning and that they are bringing back all the core cast members, especially after the last film was released directly onto Disney+ and suffered from the usual “straight-to-video” issues of it being made on the cheap.   This will also mark the first “Ice Age” theatrical film to be created by Disney, rather than Blue Sky, which was closed down shortly after Disney purchased 20th Century Studios.

You’ll find the previous “Ice Age” films available to stream now on Disney+.
