Earlier this summer at the D23: Ultimate Fan Event, Disney announced a new live-action version of its animated classic, “Lilo & Stitch”, which is about the lonely Hawaiian girl and her new, out-of-this-world alien friend who helps mend her broken family would be hitting cinemas next summer.

“Lilo & Stitch” stars Maia Kealoha, Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Tia Carrere and Chris Sanders, with Courtney B. Vance and Zach Galifianakis.

Today, during a special Disney Movie Showcase panel at the D23 Brazil event at The Transamerica Expo Center in São Paulo, Brazil, Disney revealed a brand new image from the film, giving us our first clear look at the popular alien.

The film is being directed by Dean Fleischer Camp and produced by Jonathan Eirich and Dan Lin.

Originally, “Lilo & Stitch” was going to be released directly onto Disney+, but now, it’s going to be released first in cinemas on May 23rd 2025.  So we should expect to see the new version of “Lilo & Stitch” arrive on Disney+ a few months later.

Roger’s Take: I really like the look of this new CGI version, since it looks a lot like the classic animated version, rather than making it look completely different.  With the movie not coming out until May, we probably won’t see a trailer for a while, but this is one film I’ve got a lot of hope that it hits it out of the park with.

You can find the original “Lilo & Stitch” movie, along with its sequels on Disney+ now.
