Disney has announced that it has delayed the Searchlight Pictures film “Poor Things” by a few months, originally, this film was going to be released in cinemas on September 8th 2023, but now it will be hitting the big screen on December 8th 2023.

From filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos and producer Emma Stone comes the incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Emma Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.

The film is based on the book by Alasdair Gray. The screenplay was written by Tony McNamara, making this the second collaboration between Lanthimos and McNamara (THE FAVOURITE). The movie was produced by Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe, Yorgos Lanthimos, and Emma Stone.

Recently, it was reported that Disney was looking to delay some of its theatrical releases following the actor’s strike, impacting how much promotion can be done for these upcoming releases.  The plan is still for the film to debut at the Venice Film Festival in August. However, none of the stars will attend the event due to the strike.  Disney also has a few other film releases in September, so spreading out its theatrical releases will no doubt help the studios, while negotiating with the unions who want better working conditions and increased pay.
