There has been growing speculation online about a rumour that Sacha Baron Cohen is going to be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will be playing the role of the villain in the upcoming Disney+ series, “Ironheart”.

Deadline has reported that a source close to the production has said that there is talk on the set about Sacha Baron Cohen being part of the Disney+ series, and will be playing the role of Mephisto.

And if Sacha Baron Cohen is joining the MCU, as with most roles, it won’t be confined to just a single project and its possible that he might turn up in the other magic-related Disney+ series, “Agatha: Coven Of Chaos”, which is due to arrive on the streaming platform in late 2023/early 2024.

Marvel has refused to comment on Sacha Baron Cohen’s involvement in the Disney+ series.

Sacha Baron Cohen has previously starred in comedies such as “Borat” and “Bruno”, in addition to more serious dramas like “The Trial of the Chicago 7” and “Hugo”.

There was lots of speculation that Mephisto was going to be introduced into the MCU early last year, during the “WandaVision” Disney+ series, but this never came to be. Mephisto is an extra-dimensional Demon, who rules a fiery pocket dimension that he calls “Hell” or “Hades” although it is neither the Hell of the Christian religion nor the Hades ruled by Pluto, the Olympian god of the dead. Mephisto plays on the fact that humans fear hell.

“Ironheart” will star Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, a genius inventor who builds her own advanced suit of armour and follows in Iron Man’s footsteps.

This new Marvel series will be coming to Disney+ in Fall 2023 and will also star Alden Ehrenreich, Manny Montana, Anthony Ramos, Regan Aliyah, Rashida “Sheedz” Olayiwola, Shakira Barrera, Harper Anthony, Zoe Terakes, Shea Couleé, and Lyric Ross.

The six-episode series is going to be directed by Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes, with Ryan Coogler’s Proximity among the production entities. The show’s head writer is Chinaka Hodge, and it will be executive produced by Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler, and Sev Ohanian, alongside Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, and Zoie Nagelhout.
